On September 18, citizens are invited to join Sustainable North Grenville for an information session at the Municipal Centre to learn more about the proposed TransCanada Energy-East pipeline that would flow through North Grenville and across the Rideau River. The evening will begin with a series of panelists providing local, regional, and national perspectives on the issues related to this project. Presentations will be followed by an open discussion forum and networking.

Speakers on the panel are:

Ian Angus, local resident and environmental author, specializing in climate issues

Ben Powless, Tar Sands Pipeline Community Organizer, Ecology Ottawa

Andrea Harden-Donahue, Energy and Climate Justice Campaigner, Council of Canadians

The discussion will explore the impacts of a potential spill on the Rideau River, examine environmental risks and discuss the community’s first response capacity and training for such an event. Questions about how this pipeline will affect our community will also be examined, as well as larger issues about climate change.

All are welcome to attend. Attendees are encouraged to consider alternative forms of transportation for all or part of their journey to the session.

If you have a specific question regarding the proposed pipeline, please email us at info@sustainablenorthgrenville.ca and we will address it at the event.

How you can help:

– spread the word about the event by letting your friends and family know

– attend the event and bring others: we need to show our leaders that we are concerned!

– volunteer to set up, tear down, or facilitate question and answer session. Please email info@sustainablenorthgrenville.ca if you are able to help out on Sept 18. Thank you!
