Join Us In Advocating for Climate Action!
As Canadians prepare for an election, one of the most important issues for the ballot box is our environment. Actions taken by our governments today are critical to securing a sustainable future.
A healthy environment is in the best interests of all Canadians, and the issue should not be specific to party lines. We want all of our political leaders to take the issue seriously, and to have a meaningful plan to reduce emissions.
We invite our members to send this message to their MP, plus send a copy to all leaders of federal parties. You can link to the letter here, edit as you wish, and share with others to invite them to participate.
Thank you for sending a strong message that Canada needs to stay committed to the fight against climate change.

Dear [Canadian Political Leader name will go here],
What Canada needs most is Climate Action Leaders Now
I am writing as one of the majority of Canadians who care about the environment. 60% of our entire population sees climate change as THE top concern.
It’s not helpful when political parties criticize actions that help Canada and Canadians achieve meaningful emission reductions all while presenting no plan of their own. As you ready your party for an election, I ask that you do not use climate change as an issue to divide Canadians. It should be an issue that unites us.
As a Canadian, I reflect with pride on the achievements of the landmark Montreal Protocol to protect and help the ozone layer recover. Canada helped forge this agreement – and it remains the most effective multilateral environmental agreement in the history of the world. Canadians need this same level of ambition on climate change.
For those who blame the carbon tax for the affordability crisis – this is not based in fact, and creates anger and discord needlessly. It’s not perfect. But we cannot afford to throw away evidence-based tools that fight climate change. In a recent analysis, the CBC suggest the question for anyone who wants to scrap the levy is “how are they going to fill the gap?”
What IS your plan for reducing this country’s carbon emissions?
Scientists have confirmed that fossil fuel-caused climate change is here, now.
- Global temperatures have reached 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels
- More frequent life-threatening extreme weather: wildfires, floods and storms
- The planet is losing its capacity to absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
These conditions harm every element of our lives, including affordability, public health, and our economy.
We are at a critical emergency juncture in our fight against climate change. We cannot afford to waste time and energy stoking the various sentiments of denial, anger, and resistance to climate action. We need all leadership, regardless of their political party, to take these threats seriously, and, at a minimum, to present a credible, evidence-based plan to meet Canada’s commitment to the Paris agreement, reducing our emissions to 40% below 2005 levels by 2030.
We are fighting for no less than a livable planet for our children and grandchildren. If you want to be a leader for the 21st century, this must be an issue you address in good faith with all Canadians. I look forward to hearing from you about how your party will tackle this critical issue.
Sincerely,
